Focus is Tyranny
Photography usually asks the subject to hold still and the camera to settle on a single point of view. These pictures ignore both requests. I move the camera, the subject moves in front of it, or we both do. A face turns away and is still there where it started. A dancer leaves a trace of every position along the way. No single moment gets to be in charge, so nothing quite resolves, and the image holds the whole stretch of time rather than one sliver of it. The title is only half a joke.
